Celem badań było określenie przydatności do pędzenia w okresie zimowym 15 nowych odmian tulipanów. W badaniach oceniono 13 odmian z grupy Triumph, odmianę ‘Andre Rieu’ z grupy tulipany pojedyncze późne i ‘Princess Household’ z grupy tulipany Fostera. Tulipany chłodzono przez 14 i 16 tygodni metodą standardową w temperaturze +9°C i wystawiano do pędzenia pod koniec stycznia i w drugiej dekadzie lutego. Tulipany chłodzone 16 tygodni i pędzone od drugiej dekady lutego szybciej osiągały dojrzałość handlową i tworzyły kwiaty lepszej jakości w porównaniu z chłodzonymi 14 tygodni i pędzonymi od końca stycznia. Do pędzenia w okresie zimowym polecić można odmiany: ‘Copex’, ‘Editie.NL’, ‘George W. Bush’, ‘Lemon Ice’, ‘Piet Veerman’ i ‘Princess Household’. Odmiany te wyróżniały się szybkim wzrostem, atrakcyjnym wyglądem oraz długą trwałością kwiatów. Mało przydatne do pędzenia okazały się odmiany: ‘Laura Bush’, ‘Prins Willem Alexander’, ‘Purk’, ‘Red Rover’, ‘Topkapi’, ‘Vittorio’ i ‘Jan Siemiernik’. Odmiany te charakteryzowały się słabym wzrostem i nieatrakcyjnym wyglądem. Kwiaty tych odmian były małe i słabo wybarwione, o mało wyrazistym kształcie i krótkiej trwałości. Odmiana ‘Andre Rieu’ z grupy tulipanów pojedynczych późnych cechowała się długim okresem pędzenia, słabym wzrostem, tworzyła małe i słabo wybarwione kwiaty. Łodygi były krótkie, cienkie i słabo ulistnione. Ze względu na złą jakość i małą wartość dekoracyjną kwiatów nie poleca się jej do pędzenia w okresie zimowym.

The aim of the research was to estimate the suitability of 15 new tulip cultivars for winter forcing. In the presented research 13 cultivars of the tulip Triumph Group, ‘Andre Rieu’ from the Single Late Group and ‘Princess Household’ from the Fosteriana Group were evaluated. The tulips were cooled for 14 and 16 weeks in standard conditions, at the temperature of +9°C and then placed in a glasshouse for forcing at the end of January and in the second 10-days’ period of February. Tulip bulbs cooled for 16 weeks and then forced since the second 10-days’ period of February acquainted the marketable value more quickly and formed flowers of much better quality in comparison to those cooled for 14 weeks and forced since the end of January. On the basis of the observations, the following cultivars might be recommended for winter forcing: ‘Copex’, ‘Editie.NL’, ‘George W. Bush’, ‘Lemon Ice’, ‘Piet Veerman’ and ‘Princess Household’, as they are characterized by quick growth, attractive appearance and long vase life. The following cultivars proved less suitable for forcing: ‘Laura Bush’, ‘Prins Willem Alexander’, ‘Purk’, ‘Red Rover’, ‘Topkapi’, ‘Vittorio’ and ‘Jan Siemiernik’. They ar e characterized by poor growth and unattractive appearance. The flowers of those cultivars were small and poorly coloured, with an undefined shape and short life. The cultivar ‘Andre Rieu’ from the Single Late Group is characterized by a long forcing period and poor growth. Besides, it formed small and faintly coloured flowers while their stems were short, delicate and with few leaves. Because of poor quality and a low decorative value of flowers, this cultivar is not recommended for winter forcing.
