Veterinary forensic science, as a discipline grounded in applied research, addresses a spectrum of inquiries, including the biomechanics of injuries on animal anatomies, elucidating the sequelae of such injuries, and discerning the contextual parameters surrounding their genesis. The specialized expertise wielded by forensic practitioners serves as a pivotal fount of knowledge concerning the etiology of the subject animal’s demise and the plausible trajectory of the incident. Material evidence, comprising the remains of a canine, exhibiting extensive macroscopic trauma suggestive of a potential high-velocity mechanical injury resultant from a significant height fall (9th floor), was submitted to the Department of Pathomorphology and Veterinary Forensics at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. Pertinently, no analogous case of such injury in veterinary literature of Polish provenance was ascertainable. The lesions elucidated upon autopsy bore hallmarks of extensive blunt force trauma, evincing features consistent with crush injuries. Their character and distribution suggested an inertial impact of the animal’s body against a rigid substrate from an elevated altitude. An examination of the cadaver substantiated the inference that the disclosed injuries were the consequence of a fall, with resultant circulatory-respiratory failure emerging as cause of death. A medical-veterinary scrutiny of the animal’s remains, coupled with the evidentiary corpus amassed in the pertinent case dossier, facilitated the deduction that the demise of the canine was precipitous and traumatic.
