In memory of Ph. D. Daniel Kubisz (1957-2025). A remembrance by close colleagues of Dr. hab. Daniel Kubisz (1957-2025) – an outstanding entomologist, taxonomist, and faunist associated with the Institute of Systematics and Evolution of Animals, Polish Academy of Sciences (ISEA PAS) in Kraków. A graduate in biology from the Jagiellonian University, he was for many years head of the Collections Department at ISEA and organizer of field studies in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe. Daniel authored and co-authored over 150 publications, including monographs and identification keys (Oedemeridae, Anthicidae, Cybocephalidae), numerous faunistic papers, and studies on beetles preserved in Baltic amber. In the field of nature conservation, he co-developed guidelines for the protection of xerothermic grasslands and primeval forests, and made significant contributions to the Red List and the Polish Red Data Book of Animals. He was a valued teacher and editor, honoured with awards of the Polish Academy of Sciences. A passionate enthusiast of history and music, he was known for his erudition, kindness, and support for younger researchers. He passed away suddenly on 21 January 2025, leaving behind a rich scientific legacy and collections that will continue to serve future generations.
