Streszczenia
This article presents the current and essential activities of hunters in monitoring, controlling, and combating diseases in wild animals, including zoonotic diseases that pose a threat to human health. Following the principles of rational game management, hunters undertake various initiatives aimed at both active and passive disease monitoring and control, as well as the removal of individuals suspected of having specific diseases from the environment. One of the most visible aspects of this work is the involvement of hunters in monitoring epizootic threats to specific species. When necessary, they remove animals that are either infected with, or suspected of having, dangerous diseases that can impact public health. However, recent studies reveal a gap between public perceptions of hunting and the documented contributions of hunters to disease monitoring and wildlife management. This review synthesises scientific literature regarding the ecological, epidemiological, and economic roles of hunters in addressing wildlife disease
