The present work aimed at determining the iron, copper and zinc contents in the milk of cows during lactation and in the blood serum of calves in successive weeks of their lives. The research material came from cows (15 animals) and calves (15 animals) of the Black-and-White breed with different percentage of the HF genes (50-75%). The calves descended from the cows selected for the research. Cow milk was sampled in the 2nd, 4th and 8th lactation weeks and blood serum was sampled in the 2nd, 4th and 8th weeks of life. The evaluation of management of minerals in the cows and calves based on the iron, copper and zinc concentration showed a reduction of the level of those elements at successive sampling dates. The concentration of selected microelements in the cow milk, expressed in mean values as well as extreme values, remained within the physiological standards. In contrast, a decreased iron and copper content was found in the blood serum of calves, compared with the reference values. The decreasing level of selected microelements in the examined material may, with the cow lactation progress and calf growth, cause the deficiency condition in respect to those elements.
